“Death, blood, struggle await me. But freedom is worth all of this, I'm just a slave but I'll know how to earn a new life. I will transform the tension that paralyzes me into strength.
"Rudis" was the wooden sword that in ancient Rome was used by gladiators during training. It was an exercise tool and it was made of wood because it was not meant to cause injury. However "Rudis" was also the symbol of freedom and valor. In fact it was the sword that a gladiator received as a gift when he was freed from his slave status thanks to the value he had shown by winning the fights.
"Rudis" represented both the beginning and the ultimate goal of the life and career of a gladiator. It was a tool, but also a symbol, it didn't hurt, but it liberated.
The perfume inspired by this object therefore had to contemplate strength and kindness, battle and freedom, life and death, virility and weakness at the same time.
The woody representation of the sword, symbolized by the presence of rather intense leather notes, contrasted with an accord between rose and geranium which, with its metallic facet, evokes a fighter's helmet and shield. Before fighting, the gladiator stunned himself with drinks based on grape juice and fermented fruit, recalled by the pomace which, mixing in the opening with bergamot, dried fruits and fruity notes, gives comfort and courage. Saffron gives the heart a strong personality, cedar wood embellishes it and clove gives it something extra. The final patchouli seals the virility of an exhausted gladiator who employs his last strength for victory, glimpsed between vetiver, helichrysum and a dream of musky notes and incense.
Packaging created by Italian craftsmen made of Florentine leather in red sealing wax, with fire-embossed logo. The object can be used as a pen, tobacco and/or cigar holder.
