Perfumes and films may seem like very distant worlds, but in reality they have in common a great premise that makes them possible and concrete: the creativity of those who make them. Niche perfumery, just like cinema, is an art and the story of a perfume (whether real or imaginative) is almost as important as the perfume itself, as much as the inspiration and vision of a talented director regarding a movie.

Movie inspired perfumes

In addition to the famous film Perfume - Story of a murderer, based on the bestselling novel by Patrick Süskind published in 1985, various films have been made over time that refer to the theme of perfume (such as Scent of a Woman - Scent of a woman with an amazing Al Pacino or The scent of wild must with Keanu Reeves), but none of these can be identified as a source of inspiration for a truly existing fragrance. This post shows three perfumes that draw direct inspiration from successful films, which perfume houses wanted to pay homage to and, why not, exploit to create original fragrances capable of arousing the interest and stimulating the imagination of perfume enthusiasts. cinema.

Spice Must Flow by Etat Libre d'Orange
Film: Dune,

Melange, the precious spice of Arrakis: this is the undeniable inspiration of Spice Must Flow of Etat Libre d'Orange. The cult book Dune, , written by Frank Herbert and first published in 1965, is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time and spawned two acclaimed films of the same name in 1984 and 2021 and two television miniseries broadcast in the early XNUMXs. In pills, Dune, tells of a remote future in which a bloody feud develops between two important dynasties, fighting for control of a desert planet where a spice (called melange) is produced and harvested, essential for the economy of the entire galaxy. In the book, the smell of the spice is clearly associated with that of cinnamon, which is one of the heart notes of Spice Must Flow. Belonging (obviously!) to the family of spicy perfumes, the fragrance skilfully mixes cinnamon with notes of incense, cardamom, pepper, ginger and saffron, paying homage to the daredevil spice merchants who in the real world and in the fictitious world of the novel gave birth to very important commercial exchanges between regions (or planets, in Herbert's fantasy) that are very distant and different from each other. It is a mysterious, refined, mystical and inevitably opulent perfume, one of the best spicy olfactory creations of recent years.

Petals and Swords of Nobile 1942
Film: The forest of flying daggers

This niche perfume is inspired by Xiao Mei, a blind dancer from a Chinese action/drama film The forest of flying daggers from 2004. In the film, the woman is a character who appears very fragile, but is actually endowed with great skill and inner strength. In the vision of Nobile 1942, Petals and Swords wants to represent exactly this: the warrior strength that is hidden in every woman, even when her appearance or her attitude seem to suggest weakness and fragility. The heart of the fragrance consists of three flowers with delicious scents: magnolia, jasmine and osmanthus, a shrub very common in Asia. In the top notes, a white peach accord and one of tea leaves instantly evoke China and its excellences, establishing a solid link with the acclaimed director Yimou Zhang's film. Anyone who loves flowery, fresh and clean artistic perfumes can find it in Petals and Swords a new, intense olfactory pleasure.

No. 007 of Floris London
Film:
James Bond (series)

Presented in 2022 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the first appearance on the big screen of the most famous British secret agent ever (created from the imagination of the writer Ian Fleming), No. 007 is the definitive olfactory homage to James Bond and its unique and unmistakable style. The link between Floris London and Fleming predates the creation of this perfume by many decades: Eau de Toilette No. 89 was one of the writer's favorite perfumes, who even mentioned the London house in three of his novels dedicated to agent 007. From 1962 to today, 25 films have been made starring James Bond, interpreted over the years by actors of the caliber of Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Incurable seducer, strong, determined and classy man: these have always been the most evident characteristics of the agent Bond and Floris tries to express them on an olfactory level with a rich and elegant artistic perfume, which opens with delicious notes of bergamot, juniper, sweet orange and geranium. In the novels and films, agent 007 travels around the world, visiting exotic locations full of charm and breathtaking landscapes. Hints of amber, sandalwood, oak wood and musk capture this aspect of the character perfectly Bond, giving character and an aura of mystery to the wearer No. 007.
