I spicy aromas they are simply an "inevitable" category in the world of perfumery. What better ingredient than a spice, a plant extract already aromatically concentrated and saturated with an unmistakable smell, to characterize a fragrance and enrich it with olfactory notes of irresistible charm? For thousands of years spices have been transported around the world as a rare and precious commodity, justifying the creation of trade routes that have forged important links between very distant peoples. Given their massive international consumption, they still represent an essential market today and the reasons are very simple: spices are omnipresent in every type of cuisine, they give life to unmistakable tastes and flavors and are also (mostly) good for health . And what about perfumes?

Spicy scents: exotic and inebriating aromas on the skin

I spicy aromas they draw heavily from the "pantry" of olfactory notes of the best known and most loved spices. Cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, saffron, cardamom, pepper, chilli pepper, cloves and nutmeg are among those most used in perfumery for the creation of spicy fragrances. Wanting to be precise, the most exploited spice is probably vanilla, but given its sweet and creamy nature, it is customary to find it predominantly in gourmand perfumes very different from what they are commonly classified as spicy aromas. In addition to being used abundantly in the kitchen, for hundreds and hundreds of years spices have been skilfully transformed into oils, creams and ointments with the aim of perfuming, toning and treating the body, exploiting the multiple properties of the raw materials used.

I spicy aromas they have a decidedly exotic feel and are not very easy to wear, because they often appear quite original, intense and opulent. Depending on the fragrance (or rather, the vision of its creator), spices can be used as the dominant olfactory notes or as a support to those of other raw materials. Just as it happens in the kitchen, it is not uncommon for a spicy perfume to be hot and pungent, needing a certain concentration to be fully understood and enjoyed. We have selected five from our catalogue, as different as possible from each other:

1) Intense Pepper by Montale

Intense pepper it is currently one of the most requested artistic home perfumes Montale. The reason? Spraying it really feels like dipping your face in a jar of ground pepper with an intoxicating scent! The notes of black pepper and pink pepper, enhanced by Sicilian lemon, are a real olfactory drug for those who love spicy aromas fresh. The fragrance has a truly remarkable duration and is totally unisex, like most of the perfumes of the French maison. The pepper evoked by Pierre Montale it is among the most realistic and convincing ever and this feature makes it Intense pepper a must for fans of the "par excellence" spice since prehistoric times. Perfect for those looking for an exotic, fresh and decidedly captivating perfume.

2) Aqua Ginger of Laurent Mazzone

Aqua Ginger is a fragrance that releases its spicy soul thanks to a skilful mix of notes of ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. Ginger, obviously, shines and triumphs in the composition and gives fizz to the perfume, belonging to the Les Eaux Pures collection by Laurent Mazzone. Once sprayed on the skin, Aqua Ginger it exudes freshness and vitality, making it particularly suitable for the hottest months of the year. Perfect for fans of light, non-invasive fragrances characterized by moderate longevity.

3) Black Saffron's Byredo

Saffron is one of the rarest and most expensive spices in the world. Ben Gorham, creator of the brand Byredo, has chosen to use that of Kashmir, whose olfactory note is the basis of Black Saffron. This perfume smells clean, it is elegant, sensual and not at all overwhelming. Leather and black violet blend perfectly with saffron and enhance its olfactory impact. It is a fragrance suitable for every context and every season, with floral scents that make the spicy side fresher and more delicate. Ideal for those who don't like the pungent and sparkling notes of the most intense spices, but are looking for a discreet artistic perfume with "that something extra" that intrigues those who perceive it and suggests a hidden side of their personality.

4) Red Tobacco's Mancera

Established over the years as one of the best sellers of the house Mancera, Red Tobacco expresses its spicy vocation thanks to the presence of intriguing notes of saffron, cinnamon, nutmeg and Madagascar vanilla. Its duration on the skin is legendary (we are talking about days and days!) and this characteristic makes it a must for those who love incisive and powerful fragrances, of which a couple of well-aimed sprays in the morning are strictly enough. The "spicy hit" at the opening is impossible not to notice and contributes heavily to the characterization of the perfume, obviously focused on the evocation of tobacco (in a sweet and aromatic guise). Like all strong and decisive fragrances, you either love it or hate it: we certainly recommend trying it, it could become an indispensable pleasure!

5) Megalium of Carner Barcelona

A dive into an ancient and mysterious spice shop, saturated with intense and penetrating aromas. Megalium is one of the most interesting artistic perfumes of Carner Barcelona, in which cinnamon and nutmeg play a rather dominant role. Opulence and vehemence are the key words that characterize it: the wearer does not want to go unnoticed and wants to stand out in the crowd. The quality of the ingredients is of a high standard and the mix of essences released by the bottle tastes rustic, traditional and comfortable. Those who love more intense spices must absolutely try it, they will not be disappointed.
