Talking about citrus scents, the imagination immediately leads to think of an immense sunny expanse of Sicilian orange groves or lemon gardens that populate the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi coast, real earthly paradises full of charm, colors and inebriating scents. It's hard not to love the scents of a juicy freshly picked orange or not to get lost in contemplation of the lemons still firmly hanging from the branches, similar to small very yellow suns that light up the surrounding environment in their own way. From a citrus perfume we expect just this: a skilfully prepared citrus juice to be able to express on the skin all that these fabulous fruits usually express in the air or on the palate.

Citrus scents: an explosion of freshness

The first feature associated with the citrus scents it is undoubtedly the freshness, the same freshness of an iced juice on a hot summer day. It is quite inevitable not to associate this olfactory family with the hottest and sunniest period of the year (although, it should be remembered, oranges are the quintessential winter fruit!), but in perfumery there are no precise rules and anyone who chooses to wear this type of fragrances even during the coldest and darkest months, he is completely free to do so and express his tastes as he sees fit.

By their very nature, citrus fruits are rather acidic fruits, therefore in the world of perfumes it is reasonable to expect slightly sparkling and pungent essences. It is then up to the skill of the master perfumer, of course, to balance the tartness of citrus fruits such as lemon, orange, mandarin, lime, bergamot, citron and grapefruit with other raw materials, perhaps sweeter and more sugary.

Below you can discover five high-level and olfactory very particular niche citrus fragrances:

1. Neroli Sauvage by Creed

Wild Neroli it was launched on the market in 1994 and is still firmly present in the prestigious perfume collection today Creed. It is undoubtedly one of the best unisex artistic fragrances centered on neroli, a precious essential oil obtained from bitter orange blossoms. The olfactory pyramid is largely centered on citrus fruits: in addition to a precious neroli from Paraguay, notes of Calabrian bergamot, bitter orange, Sicilian lemons and Italian grapefruit appear, alongside those of orange blossom, verbena and ambergris. Once sprayed, Wild Neroli it conveys a powerful sensation of cleanliness, freshness and elegance and testifies to the talent and care of its author Olivier Creed, now legendary perfumer nose (creator of the very famous Aventus and many other cult perfumes of the English maison).

2. Sicilian orange of Perris Monte Carlo

Thanks to a fine artisanal extraction method, the Sicilian blood orange essential oil at the base of Sicilian orange it is presented as one of the purest ingredients ever used in the composition of a citrus perfume. Perris Monte Carlo has always paid great attention to the quality of the raw materials of its fragrances and this vigorous Eau de Parfum is definitely no exception. Together with the powerful notes of blood orange, those of almond, cinnamon, labdanum absolute, coffee absolute, iris, musk and amber contribute to making Sicilian orange a unisex perfume that is complex and simple at the same time, well balanced and a perfect expression of the expertise and love that characterize authentic artistic perfumery.

3. Oyedo of Diptyque

Oyedo is a magnificent unisex fragrance all based on citrus fruits, among which the Asian yuzu, strongly aromatic and perfumed, and the green mandarin stand out. Notes of thyme and raspberry enrich the olfactory pyramid of the perfume, launched on the market in 2000 and still present today in the list of fragrances Eau de Toilette best sellers of Diptyque. On the skin Oyedo it conveys a sensation of absolute freshness and cleanliness, with an ever-present hint of pleasant sparkling acidity and some vague sweet hints in the background. The positive sensations that this perfume evokes are many and pleasant to wear every day.

4. Lemon of Laboratorio Olfattivo

Italian lemon, ginger, orange leaves, white musk: these are the notes that make up Lemon, one of the fragrances composed by Jean-Claude Ellena for Laboratorio Olfattivo. Ellena, a master perfumer of the highest international caliber, declared that he let himself be inspired for the creation of this perfume by one of his trips along the Amalfi coast, during which he had the opportunity to admire the splendid and colorful terraces reserved for the cultivation of precious lemons. The result is truly magical and delicious: Lemon it is perhaps the perfume centered on this citrus with the most realistic characterizing note ever, a real squeeze of pulpy sun-kissed lemons that refreshes, energizes and enchants anyone who wears it.

5. Bergamask by Orto Parisi

Bergamask represents bergamot according to Alessandro Gualtieri, who chose to blend it inextricably with musk to give life to a fragrance that is as always unique and full of character. Like everything else in the collection of Orto Parisi, it is not a light and immediate perfume, but a small citrus olfactory bomb destined to last a very long time on the skin. The result? A fragrance that displaces and divides fans of niche perfumes between enthusiastic admirers and severe critics. Our thinking? In the citrus family it is practically impossible to find a more intense and charismatic perfume than this one. The sparkling citrus fruits are always perceptible, but the animalic musk and some green hints create a fascinating and incomparable olfactory experience. Bergamask must be tried without any hesitation!
