Initially launched in 1882, Fougère Royale completely revolutionized the perfume world and established modern perfumery as we know it today. Fougère Royale was the first “fougère” (or fern-like) fragrance to be conceived, thus establishing an entirely new fragrance family which remains to this day the most renowned olfactory family in men's fragrances.
More importantly, was the fact that Houbigant it was the first perfume house to discover how to isolate particular molecules starting from natural raw materials, especially coumarin, which is extracted from tonka beans.
Today, in line with the past, the Maison Houbigant has revisited this extraordinary classic with an elegant and contemporary style.
The formula has been reworked with great skill in collaboration with the nose Rodrigo Flores-Roux, Givaudan's head perfumer.
Fougere Royale begins with an energizing citrus cocktail that blends with a bouquet of Mediterranean herbs, where lavender essential oil and Moroccan chamomile mark the time.
The fresh start is followed by a redundant heart, in which the "Rondeletia" spicy flower accord is revealed by rich nuances of geranium and warm spices. A floral interlude created with rare Rose absolutes, is warmed up by Pepper, Cinnamon and Carnation.
The grand finale consists of a harmony of woody and amber tones, in which Oakmoss blends with a sensual Patchouli, Coumarin, enriched by Tonka Bean and Sage absolutes.
Our impressions: a classic perfume for a modern man. A fougère and aromatic version that is always appreciated.
