In Central America, the Aztecs were the first to discover and appreciate the qualities of the cocoa bean, proving its unique qualities and showing them to the world. The cocoa bean is considered a gift from Quetzalcoatl, the god of knowledge. It was believed that by consuming cocoa beans one could acquire power and wisdom. It was also said to be a powerful aphrodisiac for the gods.
